How the kidneys filter blood:
1) the renal artery brings in unfiltered blood to the kidney
2) smaller blood vessels pass through the nephron 3) water, urea, glucose, salts, and amino acids are forced out of the blood and into the nephron |
4) most of the water and some nutrients move back into the blood from the nephron. Waste materials are left behind as urine

5) urine leaves the kidney through ?the ureter to the bladder, and the ?cleaned blood leaves the kidney in ?the renal vein
